What is Threading

Guys I'm new in Programming and I've came across the term Threading serveral times but I'm not sure what is it.Can anyone give me a brief Explanation of what is it.

What's threading?Oh it's difficult to explain carefully.But you can image like this. May be you have used a browser (Internet Exploreror Firefox).You can download a file (music text..)and you can surf some web pages. Download is called a thread and surf some web pages is too called thread. Normally when you build a program you always have a thread (Main Thread).But if you want there are many things to be done at the same time you must have multi thread. Every thread will make a things. In my example thread1 is download and thread1 is surf web. if you want to know more about thread you can read some e-book about this.

As this post is very old I am not sure whether you have got the exact understanding of threading or not. Threading: Threading is to divide one process into multiple executable paths (threads) so that processor can execute them in parallel (by allocating time slots). Basic purpose of threading is to improve the performace of application by creating the seperate threads for long running processes (e.g Importing users from CSV file into the database Exporting data to external system). As you can see from the above example there can be thousands of users that system will import into the database (lengthy process). If you write the code for importing users in the main application and does not create the thread application will remain busy in importing users all the time. You can improve the performace of this application by creating two different threads. 1- Main Application (Main thread) 2- User import function (2nd Thread) While Import function imports the user main application can continue the other operations. I hope this will help you understanding the threadings.
