Which one I need to stay?

Sir I have 6 months experience in C# development.My Project Manager asking to me to shift to Database.I am in confusion to which one i need to choose??I am asking interms of career growthSalary and job oppurtunites in future.Please someone give suggestion without saying you need to decide.

Hi Joseph No problem all your Q. are fine and I do understand your worry. I have looked at the links and those are showing some survey based figures and doesn't give exact 100% accurate data. Let me re-iterate the fact that in today's world it's hard to survive with just C# or SQL Server (Db) skills. Because cloud is pushing to go DB administration go away and programming languages are now used to build complex LOB (line of business) enterprise level applications. Which requires good working knowledge of various tools and technologies to really stand out. Here in USA I work across various tools / Technologies (all on Microsoft Technology Stack). Back in 2010 time frame I was working with Microsoft Redmond WA and need arrived to design and develop a SQL BI Solution and I picked that up. I learned that and made it successful. I enjoyed that because that was something new over C#. Even today I am one of few candidates in team of 30+ members who knows SQL BI and it makes me stand out. By saying this I am just trying to say that thing helped me to take my Db skills to next level I encountered other problems and I learned new things which I would not have learned otherwise. Overall even if you see from a developer's perspective what type of developer would someone be; if he/she doesn't know database programming. So for now forget about salary and just FOCUS on adding up new hard core basic skills like Db fundamentals and programming ( Database Tables Views Stored Procedures Queries Functions JOIN UNION etc.) these things will not go away no matter SQL Server 2035 is launched or Oracle 35 i/g comes out. I also believe that you will agree that over 50% C# code is class function and if/else/for/while etc. similarly over 50% db work developers do is what I just mentioned above. Salary also depends upon what else an individual have including inter-personal skills communication (verbal/written) presentation technical leadership etc. Hope this answers some of your Qs. Hi Joseph Firstly if you are looking for a strong .NET Career them only C# .NET skills will not suffice. Any individual must have good mix of technical skills including Db. I would recommend this is a good opportunity to have your hands on Db and learn the hard core fundamentals. However I am not sure if you are being forced totally into Db and asked to be totally isolated with C# .NET ? if this is the case then at-least until you complete 1 year in same job; work with your supervisor to have work on both db and C# possibly design db and write C# code to integrate with db. This approach will help you to stay in touch with C# and Db and help you implement end-to-end solution and meet the supervisor's expectation(s). Hope this helps Best Wishes.

Hi Joseph Complete Isolation will make your C# skills rusty and we don't want that. I would emphasize upon continue to work on C# and pick Db related skills as well. For some reason if you are being pushed into DB 100% then continue doing C# side by side and seek requirements where you an contribute in writing C# code. Else wait for 6 more month and try other options in Job market. Best Wishes.

Hi Joseph I don't think there is more salary in pure DB role. I would recommend you to build your development skills but at the same time learn db skills from an application developer level. Best Wishes.

Hi Vidya Virat Sir From last 6 months i am into c# development and now they are completely planning to shift me into DB.And They will give experience for me in DB only.If DB has more bright future interms of Getting more salaryHaving more job oppurtunites ill continue in DB. Otherwise ill try to request them that ill continue in c# development.Suggest me sir.
