I have a completely different view on this one may be because I came from a time when such luxuries where not available to us. Anyway. DataSet and DataTable or all Data??? are in memory representation of physical storage. So basically DataSet = Database DataTable = Table DataRow = Row DataColumn = Column DataRelation = foreing keys etc. In my opinion try to stay away from all the in memory objects so far as possible. Needless to mention being in memory these tent to have adverse impact on performance on memory constrained machines / devices. Typically in memory representations are used where db connections are not reliable and your application is expected to work in disconnected mode. In more usual connected mode it is almost always advisable that you get only required amount of data and persist it as often and as soon as you can. In summary use it only when you are forced to use it. Don't use it just because it is available to you. Simple.

Hey Naqi In simple words DataTable is a collection of rows and columns that is used to keep your data in a tabular format that allow user to calculate filter like features and lots more. Whereas DataSet is a collection of tables in an array format. You can fetch collections of table in a DataSet with your query.

DataSet is collection of dataTables. DataTable is contain multiple row and column. Real time example: Some time Stored procedure have multiple select statement that time we use DataSet because DataSet hold multi ta ble data . If Stored procedure have single select statement that time we use DataTable Create Procedure Sample(P_key varchar (100)) as begin SELECT * FROM @myTable1; SELECT * FROM @myTable2; end ; Above Procedure return multiple table data so we use DataSet Create Procedure Sample(P_key varchar (100)) as begin SELECT * FROM @myTable1; end ; Above Procedure return Single table data so we use DataTable

hi Zaidi first of all you understand core functionality of dataset and datatable . DataSet and DataTable are the key components in ADO.NET programming. This mean that DataTable represents an in memory representation of the database. We can load a single Table from the database into a DataTable and manipulate the data in memory. DataTable can be used as a DataSource and used it if we are going to fetch data in a single database table only. While DataSet on the other hand can define DataRelations - which define the relationship between DataTables much like a foreign key relationship can be set up between tables in a database. DataSets themselves DOES NOT Contain any Data. DataSets contain DataTables (which is where any data actually resides)DataRelations etc but no data.
