Why European developers are more open source?

Is it just me or everyone thinks that our European developer friends are more open source? I see more software open source from europe than other parts of the country. I would like to hear what everybody thinks here on C# Corner.

That makes sense. Most of the software giants are being US based can be costly. I was reading an article how EU govt is building standards for open source software. I guess at some point, it becomes a culture.

I think it's probably because, historically, Europeans have had to pay significantly more for proprietary software than their American counterparts. As there seemed to be no good reason for this, it led to a general feeling that Europeans were being held to ransom by the US software giants which led in turn to a willingness to consider and contribute to open source software as an alternative to the proprietary offerings. This is particularly noticeable with cash-strapped government and local government bodies who are big enough to provide most of their own support. However, this isn't really a viable option for smaller organizations who prefer instead to stick with proprietary software but then save money by refusing to upgrade to the latest versions.
