Why functions in SQL when we already have Stored Procedures?

When we have Functions & Procedure s? As Procedure returns single value and multiple values . so why we need a Function in SQL for returning single value?

Hello Mahesh We usually use the SP to return a complex type result set which Functions cannot. Functions are usually like SPLITSTRING functions which help split your strings based on your delimiter. Procedures can not be utilized in a SELECT statement whereas Function can be embedded in a SELECT statement. Stored Procedures cannot be used in the SQL statements anywhere in the WHERE/HAVING/SELECT section whereas Function can be.
