Try below query: Declare @XDoc xml; set @XDoc = ' Janine O1 Petru O3 '; SELECT Cust.value('(Customer)[1]' 'Varchar(50)') AS ' Customer ' Cust.value('(Order)[1]' 'Varchar(50)') AS 'Order' FROM @XDoc.nodes('/rws/rw') AS AOC(Cust) Output Customer Order ------------ -------- Janine O1 Petru O3 Note : Make sure that you are using SQL Server 2008 or onwards. Although xml was implemented in SQL server in 2005 but it was not full featured.
