A LIST is an object which holds variables in a specific order. The type of variable that the list can store is defined using the generic syntax. Here is an example of defining a list called numbers which holds integers. A library can be made of a single file or as many files as necessary. A file that is part of a library can contain one or more classes. Each class should implement a behavior that can eventually be useful and accessible to other classes. The classes in a library are created exactly like those of other programs.
Lists: • Can have attachments • Have major versions only • Do not have Check-in/Check-out features Libraries: • Cannot have attachments (files are directly in the library) • Have both minor (draft) and major (published) versioning • Have Check-in/Check-Out • Publishing Libraries can use Page Layouts • Have Unique Document Ids out of the box

What is SharePoint list? Any web part in SharePoint that holds content is a SharePoint list. What is SharePoint library? A library in SharePoint is essentially a special list, created specifically to store documents. That’s all it is. It is a special web part that already exists in SharePoint (called Document Library) that allows to store documents and has all the functionality around documents (document preview, versioning, check-in/check-out, document approval, file type breakdown, etc.)
