Sunglass Sized VR Headset Released To Compete With Oculus and HoloLens

We saw some pretty amazing devices being unveiled at this year’s CES. One such device that attracted attention was a VR headset by Dlodlo V1, as it can be worn like a pair of regular glasses.

In spite of its diminutive size, it can be compared to something like the Oculus Rift of Facebook or the HoloLens of Microsoft. It comes with the following features.
  • 2400 x 1200 resolution (1200 x 1200 per eye)
  • 90 Hz refresh rate
  • 105 degree field of view
  • 16 mm thickness
  • 88 g weight
  • 72 % NTSC coverage
  • Carbon fiber frame
The resolution is as good as Oculus or Vive, the lenses are quite free of aberrations, and the head tracking is quite perfect. Also, there is no positional tracking, hence the entire experience is quite similar to Oculus.

The only disadvantage is the light leakage which comes from the sides, as these glasses do not provide blackout like the one offered by a normal VR headset. However, it might not be much of an issue, as it will mostly be used indoors.

Another drawback of this headset is its lack of compatibility with its existing VR platforms. Initially, the company has focused on running games from a smartphone accessory, known as D1, but the company informs that the headset will now be compatible with SteamVR.

The V1 seems like a preview of the future, and it is quite surprising to see a prototype of this kind from a small company, which is not as well-known. However, it makes one wonder that if this kind of experience can be achieved in 2017, then what will a few more years bring to the world of technology. Moreover, it seems that 2017 will go on to be quite exciting,  as the CES this year started with a big bang.
