Rendering word documents as PDF

Question

Is it possible to render a word document as PDF on opening from SharePoint? This is different to converting a document and saving it as PDF which creates a separate file. This would be displaying a word document as PDF based on some user &/or document characteristic. For example if a user has read only privileges and they click to open a word document in a library it would actually open as PDF because of their restricted privilege. As another example if a user was acessing a mobile version of a site the word document would open as PDF based on a rule to display the PDF output to the mobile site version.

Hi Niall I think if you open the word document as any mode then the recent versions of microsoft word document then you can save it as pdf document by choose the save as option.
